History Comes to Life: Continuous theatrical performances

In Val-Jalbert, you can explore the past—and even experience it firsthand. Throughout your visit, our guides—affectionately known as the “villagers”—welcome you while faithfully portraying their roles, offering a vivid and authentic immersion in everyday life in the 1920s.

From June 20 to August 31, The experience gets even better: our professional actors join the Village’s residents to present a continuous stream of daily theatrical scenes. More than just spectators, the audience is sometimes invited to interact right in the midst of these storylines that punctuate the day and bring history to life before your very eyes.

Majestic and vibrant, the Ouiatchouan Falls display their full power: a true natural oasis that you can explore from various angles thanks to our many lookout points. Hop aboard the cable car and be amazed by spectacular views of the Historic Village and the vast expanse of Lake Saint-Jean.

Don’t miss the immersive show presented right in the mill’s industrial setting. Finally, a tour of the many historic buildings is sure to captivate you with their charm and unique features from days gone by. You’ll discover an entire village: from the family home to the convent school, including the mill and service buildings such as the general store and the post office.

Summer Weather Conditions in Lac-Saint-Jean

☀️ Summer in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

The Historic Village is a premier destination, a must-see attraction for Tourisme Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, and a museum accredited by the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications.

📅 July and August: the height of summer

These are the warmest months of the year; whether the sky is clear or partly cloudy, the experience remains complete thanks to the variety of our indoor and outdoor activities.

Temperatures: Daytime temperatures average around 24°C (75°F) and can rise to 30°C (86°F) or higher on hot days.

The Village opens at 9 h; so the morning is a great time to stop by and enjoy one of the beaches on Lake Saint-Jean later in the day. (Shh… it’s our little secret!)
The heat peaks in the middle of the afternoon, between 14 h and 15 h; the variety of activities offers the perfect mix of indoor and outdoor options. As you’re taken to the top of the Ouiatchouan Falls by cable car (72 meters above the ground), you’ll feel a light, cool breeze coming off the vast Lake Saint-Jean. Did you know that Ouiatchouan Falls is 20 meters taller than Niagara Falls?

A great experience—I highly recommend it!

The village is very charming, and so is the staff. You learn a lot throughout the tour (and often with a touch of humor). The restoration of the buildings is quite impressive. To top it all off, there are short performances throughout the day that are very funny and enjoyable to watch.

The waterfalls are magnificent (both the large one and the slightly more secluded one, which you can reach by cable car and then on foot). If you get the chance, be sure to stop by in the evening to see the waterfall lit up!

For the best experience, I recommend spending the whole day there so you can fully enjoy everything it has to offer

A historic village that has been preserved and converted into a museum.

We were very pleasantly surprised by our overnight stay in the village. The room was spacious, modern, clean, and very well-equipped, located right across from the general store. We had our best meal of the trip around the lake, with staff who were as efficient as they were cheerful in a beautiful dining room. What a treat to enjoy the site before it opened to the general public in the morning after lunch. We highly recommend it 😎

We’ve just returned from a wonderful one-night stay in your beautiful village. We stayed one night in Room 111. We had two wonderful days. Everything was perfect. First of all, the people!! Whether at the front desk, on the grounds, at the restaurant, or during the activities, everyone was welcoming, passionate, and smiling. The room was very comfortable and very pretty—and what can I say about the meals!! Dinner at the Moulin restaurant was delicious, and the atmosphere was absolutely delightful. The music during dinner was wonderful—very relaxing. Lunch, of course, featured the classic Lac-style tourtière, which was so good!!! My mother, my sister, my daughter, my granddaughter, and I would like to thank you for the warm welcome and the wonderful time that the entire Village Val Jalbert team made possible for us. This wasn’t our first visit, and it certainly won’t be our last.
